Filmed live from Almeida Theatre, NTL live brings William Shakespeare's original play from the stage to the screen. Simon Russell Beale plays the titular character, Richard II.

Director Joe Hill-Gibbins will helm this emotional new production about the ends of power. Little Revolution and Absolute Hell are some of his well-known works.

Richard II, King of England, is careless, absurd and frivolous. His poor leadership sends his country into disarray and his court into a row. Seeing no other choice but to arrest power, the formidable Bolingbroke claims the throne and the king’s supreme right to govern.

Simon Russell Beale makes his return to National Theatre Live screens. After the successful broadcasts of Timon of Athens and King Lear, as well as the National Theatre’s critically lauded The Lehman Trilogy, Beale makes a triumphant return.

Catch the show on April 20 at Home of the Arts.
